The Beginner’s Survival Guide to Reformer Pilates
Beginner’s Guide to Reformer Pilates in Bermondsey SE1
So, you’ve seen the “scary looking” machine with the springs and straps, and you’re ready to see what the buzz in SE1 is all about. Whether you are a London Bridge local or a Bermondsey regular, walking into your first class can feel a bit like stepping onto a spaceship. You might even be wondering, “is reformer plates hard for beginners?”
Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. Here is your essential survival guide to conquering the equipment and finding your flow at Nelo Wellness, the go-to pilates studio for absolute beginners in Bermondsey.
1. The Nelo Reformer Orientation
Most beginners feel a little nervous about jumping straight into a group flow. To help you feel at home, we offer a unique reformer pilates orientation in Bermondsey. This is a dedicated 45-minute introductory session (scheduled on Sundays) designed specifically to get you “Reformer Ready.”
In this session, we strip away the intimidation. You will learn the kit, master the spring system, and understand how to align your foundation while practicing a standard beginner flow routine. While this orientation is NOT mandatory, you are more than welcome to dive straight into a beginner friendly reformer pilates class in SE16, it is the perfect way to build total confidence before your first full workout.
2. Dress for Success (and Safety)
In our SE1/ SE16 studio, we keep things professional yet cozy. For your first session:
- Wear Form-Fitting Clothes: This helps your instructor see your form and ensures nothing gets caught in the moving parts.
- Grip Socks are Essential: These provide the traction you need to stay stable on the carriage. If you don’t have a pair, don’t worry, you can buy grip socks directly at the studio when you arrive.
3. Arrive and Settle In
We know life in Bermondsey and London Bridge is fast-paced. You don’t need to wait around, simply arrive just 5 minutes early. This gives you enough time to store your belongings, meet your instructor, and mention any injuries or goals you have before we start our reformer pilates for beginners.
4. Listen to the Cues, Not the Room
It’s tempting to look at what the person next to you is doing, but Pilates is an internal practice. Focus on your instructor’s verbal cues. We focus on technical precision, sometimes the smallest adjustment to your posture is what makes the exercise go from “okay” to “life-changing.”
Why Nelo Wellness?
Located right in the heart of the SE1/SE16 community, Nelo Wellness is more than just a studio, it’s a place to align your body and mind. We bridge the gap between the fast London pace and mindful, effective movement.
